Model Yachts - 30th November Sailing and New Wednesday Sessions
Published 05:47 on 3 Dec 2024
Saturday 30th saw some of the best Model Yacht sailing weather of the winter season so far with a good southerly breeze blowing for 10 keen sailors.
Always keen to keep things interesting, the course was changed from the standard triangle format to an initial triangle followed by 2 gates prior to a finish across the line. The options for the gates increased the tactical element of the races as well as skill and on one race, Gil made a remarkable comeback through opting for the lower leeward mark whilst everyone else bundled up around the higher mark.
There were some interesting moments, not least when 3 of the model yachts ended up stalled and tangled in each other just before the finish line - fortunately, they blew themselves about and no rescue was required! There were also a few lapses in remembering which mark was required for the first triangular lap!
Overall, it was a great afternoon spent in good company and it was lovely to see so many boats, in all their different colours, out on the water, especially Tim and Jash who came down and took the club boat and fleet Captain Gil's second boat out for a spin!
Anyone wanting to try Model Yachts is more than welcome, the current sailors are always happy to give advice and support and there'll always be a boat you can have a go with. It's an excellent way to keep sailing in the winter and enjoy a relaxing afternoon!
The winter series is Saturday 12:30-14:30 and very recently started with this coming week to be the first session, there is Model Yacht sailing on Wednesdays approximately 12:00-14:00 which is entirely for fun with no trophy to be won but a great chance to try some different courses and techniques.
