Seamanship Course wraps up 2024 sailing courses

Ely SC's wonderful instructors have rounded up sailing courses for 2024 with a very successful RYA Advanced Seamanship module course.
6 students learnt how to cope with the unexpected elements of sailing on this course such as sailing rudderless (which involved lots of circles before anyone managed it!), sailing without a board, reefing afloat, anchoring and even sailing backwards!
Conditions for the course were great with a good breeze both days and as constant a wind as Ely gets on Saturday... the same couldn't quite be said for Sunday... And everyone stayed mostly dry and smiley! It was certainly hard work but also very good fun. Well done to all.
Huge thanks to Phil & Alayne for running this course meaning that in 2024, ESC has run
1 adult level 2 course
1 cadets stage 3/4 course
3 adult level 1 courses
3 cadets level 1/2 courses
1 adult & senior cadets advanced course
And that's in addition to the shorebased Seamanship & Navigation course run over the winter and a Powerboat course early in the year to train more rescue drivers. Phew!
And it's all made possible by our incredible instructors. So thanks to Alayne, Phil and Ian for their sailing instruction; Dave for his navigation instruction & Steve for teaching powerboating. And of course to Tamara, training centre principal. You're all superstars!
Ely SC has now run the courses for this year. Sailing courses will commence again next year with booking for beginners courses open to members early next year and non-members at our Open Day in early May.
